The plush reindeer is a magnificent mammal and resides in North America and Northern Europe in forest and mountain areas. There are around twenty different reindeer plush species around the globe.
The most common sub species of plush reindeer is the North American Caribou. The reindeer are different than their relatives, because both male and female reindeer grow antlers. During the wintertime the plush reindeer shed their antlers and regrow them after the season ends. An adult reindeer can grow to a height of almost four feet and weigh as much as three hundred pounds. Another name a reindeer is referred to during Christmas time is a plush Rudolph.
Since the reindeer plush live half of their life in an extremely cold environment they are known to travel in herds. Their herd can contain anywhere from twenty reindeer up to thousands. The plush reindeer constantly move to keep warm and to find food. Their hooves act like huge snowshoes and accommodate traveling long distances on ice and snow. Plush Rudolph is known for making long migrations, especially during the summertime to continually find fresh food.
The daily diet of the reindeer plush includes moss, grass and lichen. They are only plant eaters and consume most of their food during the summer and spring seasons. They love munching on shrubs and grazing on the grass. However, during the extreme winter months the plush rudolph has difficulty finding enough food to eat. Most of the time during this season, they will dig holes many feet deep into the ice and snow until they reach the frozen grass beneath. They will also not hesitate to feed on any frozen shrubs or twigs they find below or above the accumulated snow.
The female plush reindeer will give birth to one baby reindeer as much as once a year during May. When the baby is one day old it can already run faster than a man. The baby reindeer plush weighs on average of fifteen pounds and will stand on its own within ten minutes of being born. The baby plush Rudolph is unique from all their relatives, due to not being born with a camouflaged fur coat. When the baby is one year old their antlers will start grow and be strong enough to quickly get away from predators. If the baby is a male, it will then be able to amplify their roar due to an inflatable pouch underneath their throat. The average lifespan of the reindeer plush is thirteen years.
